Ariana Grande is not ideal –she does not pretend to be.
In Wednesday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 25-year old pop superstar performed her new single,”thank , second,” for the very first time on TV. The very first Wives-inspired number showcased Grande along with her backup singers, Victoria Monét and Tayla Park, wearing all white in a wedding.
The trio’s choreography mimicked the finale in the 1996 comedy starring Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler as three buddies who sought revenge in their poor husbands.
(Within an Instagram sneak peek Tuesday, Grande branded herself as Hawn, Monét as both Keaton and Park as Midler. The two Grande and Ellen DeGeneres shared with a trailer clip through social networking, also.)
Throughout the next verse, Grande stood one of those seats to sing,”Spend more time with my friends / I ai not concerned’bout nothin’ / Plus, I met somebody else / We havin’ better talks ” After stepping down, the high-heeled diva stumbled and cried,”Oh, my God!” However, without missing a beat, the pop superstar was able to recuperate and laugh . She subsequently resumed the operation, singing,”This one gon’ final /’Cause her name is Ari / And I am so great with this.”
Grande might have redone her performance, as it had been pre-taped on Tuesday. But why should she? If she has learned anything out of her breakup with Pete Davidson and Mac Miller’s premature death, it is a sense of humor will get her through virtually anything. However, Grande fought back tears throughout the bridge. “One day I will walk down the aisle / Holding hands with my mama / I will be thanking my daddy /’Cause she climbed from the play,” she danced. “Just want get it done real bad / Gon’ make that s–t continue / God forbid something happens / Least this tune is a crush.”
Following the performance finished, a proud DeGeneres informed Grande,”Thanks for being here. This was amazing! That was wonderful. You have had a tough year. Most of us love you. We encourage you. Most of all, the title of this CD is Sweetener–and you’re going home with her CD!”
Grande also performed her hit single “Breathin” in Wednesday’s episode.
