Historical Approach

We often heard the saying: “big nation is a nation that has not forgotten history”. Then Bung Karno himself never spoke about Jasmerah: “Never forget history”. Usually this was said in the perspective of nationalism, in which the survival and prosperity of the nation became the focus. Historical approach is not much different to the above, just with a broader perspective is the perspective of mankind on this earth, without the box, and a long stretch of history, since Homo sapiens walked the earth today. And we also try telescoped future from its current position. The focus is on human civilization itself, namely the survival of human species on earth we are only one of this.
Is it historical approach? Historical approach is a way to put ourselves in space and time in the history of human civilization. The trick is none other than by studying history as a unified whole, not divided by political boundaries and religion, even the constraints of time. With this we hoped to develop a sense of “belonging and being human”.
What would be achieved through this approach?
1. Consciousness (awareness), that we are today is a product of history millions of years. We no longer see life as something to take it for granted. Why do we have to wear pants? Because that’s the way it is. Thousands of questions like the above can be answered just like that, because that’s how it is. This is where there was a history of chain termination. We just live on without knowing the final link chain and middle initial. All aspects of current life history characterized by loss of consciousness. Property rights, human rights, gender, legal, tax and much more has to be something that has existed for granted, even more than religion. It feels more and more people criticize religion than to criticize the concept of property rights. By studying our history will be taken from the early to watch the whole development of human history, its progress and also its downfall.
2. Fullness (wholeness), which is a continuation of consciousness. It could be described as follows: we are born simultaneously with the birth of human history, and grow together with the historical development. Roman glory, with his Pax Romana, not the past of our ancestors but our youth. French Revolution and the industrial revolution was a period in our development as well. First world war and the second is our crisis, too. Everything that we experience as our own lives. We become an integral part of history itself, because we ourselves are also part of history.
3. Togetherness (unity), that we are all part of civilization. Like it or not, we live in it. We have a choice: dissolve in it, or feel that togetherness. The fate of our world as well as the fate of a personal feel. These feelings can be equated with altruism, which is felt as a unity of mankind. In other words, history can make us one, because actually we are not too different. These feelings can be amplified by menyadaari fact that we live together on earth are one. Sickness is a real person in pain the whole earth. Famine in Ethiopia is also our hunger. The war in Iraq also killed our brothers and sisters, both in the United States and Iraq.
4. Responsibility (responsibility), that we are all responsible for the future of mankind. Lives of our children and grandchildren later is also our lives. Sense of responsibility is no other because we are only carrying the baton of civilization, as well as our predecessors. The finish line is still far away, that we can do is do your best in our era with all its advantages and shortcomings. We must fix the shortcomings of our ancestors and paved the way for a more seamless our next generation.
Only with an awareness of history, we will become a historical human being. Without it we are not yet fully become a man. This is what will make progress in human civilization.
